Nature Expects Nothing

In my last post I talked about Expecting Nothing from Life and Taking Everything.
Today on my way to martial arts I was given a wonderful reminder as I noticed the trees on the side of the road.
Simply. Nature Expects Nothing.
Here were all these cars speeding by, breaking the speed limit just enough that they won’t get caught and then there are the trees. Just sitting there idle, waving in the breeze.
The same goes in the heart of the city. People striding their way through the crowds head down thinking about their next most pressing commitment. Every 20 metres another tree passes by overhead just taking in the light.
The sense of peace and calm that nature exhibits is a wonderful thing to take in.
So wake up and smell the roses, they will be waiting patiently for you.

Hi Jarrod
Beautiful thought.
All of our expectations and expecting take away from the present moment.

Thanks for this post. One irony that’s always struck me is that we’re in this frantic mode because we want to eventually be peaceful like the trees, but relaxing into that peace isn’t something that we can earn — it’s something we have to do right now. Best, Chris

Thanks for the reminder to slow down and breathe, breathe, breathe in the air from the wind that sweeps through the bushes on the sidewalk as I take my walk next to the rushing traffic everyday.

@Chris: I would even say it is something we have to let happen rather than do.
@Evelyn: I had a conversation like this with my work colleagues today. They were suggesting you need to take different routes to work in order to keep your mind fresh and aware and I was just saying you just need to release your filters and be aware of your surroundings.
Everything is new no matter how many times you have been there.

Simple, but very relevant reminder, thanks! – Although I am not sure if nature really does not expect anything. In the tree sample the tree is maybe expecting that light is continuing to shine.
I think the bigger difference between the hurrying people and the nature is the amount of commitments. The tree has just committed in growing and spreading out and their is even no deadline given. And probably the tree will neither get into panic mode when there are years without possibility to grow. – But I can’t tell as I never talked with a tree.

@Martin: Great observations Martin. Maybe the tree is expecting light, this is where we can make ourselves smarter than a tree and not expect
